***************Therapy and Definition***************
Flower Therapies: In the early 1930's a British physician discovered that many of his patients' emotional and psychological difficulties predisposed them to the onset of physical disease. Additionally, these difficulties -- such as anxiety, fear, resentment, jealousy, even lack of self-confidence -- complicated physical disorders once manifested, making them more difficult to treat. In his search for a safe and effective treatment the doctor eventually succeeded in discovering 38 flowering plants, trees, and special waters, preparations which assisted in resolving a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. Used successfully for over 60 years by physicians and other health care professionals worldwide, preparations of these substances are among those on the leading edge of a new direction in medicine. This direction is away from strong pharmaceutical drugs, toward more natural, non-habit forming preparations which gently assist the body in mobilizing its own internal healing capabilities.
Meditation is one of the proven alternative therapies. More and more doctors are prescribing meditation as a way to lower blood pressure, improve exercise performance in people with angina, help people with asthma breathe easier, relieve insomnia and generally relax the everyday stresses of life. Meditation is a safe and simple way to balance a person's physical, emotional, and mental states. It is simple; but can benefit everybody.
Shiatsu utilizes a combination of pressure and assisted-stretching techniques, some of which are common to other therapies, such as Massage, Physiotherapy, Acupressure, Osteopathy, Lymphatic Drainage, Do-in and others. The treatment stimulates the circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid, releases toxins and deep seated tensions from the muscles, stimulates the hormonal system and the immune system, and acts on the autonomic nervous system, allowing the recipient to relax deeply and to get in touch with own healing power.

Disciplines:I have been in this profession for 15 years and I have been formally trained in Gestalt and Internal Family Systems . My style is generated from various humanistic psychotherapies with an interest in the mind/body interrelation, combined with a grounding in classical theories. My style is respectful, empathic and compassionate. I am present and real, listen carefully and interact.  I am very gentle, and pay close attention to the clients pacing and safety.  I also agree with Rogers, who believes that when a person experiences unconditional acceptance and empathic understanding from someone who is experienced as genuine and real, healing and growth occur. As a therapist I am nonjudgmental and I respect the autonomy and positive strengths of each individual. Additionally I believe in the importance of a good match between therapist and client, so I encourage an initial meeting to establish whether we are a good fit.

Clients Served:I work with people of any backround, with any problem, orientation, religion or belief system, age, sex, or issue.

East West Academy of Healing Arts (EWAHA) is a non-profit,   501(c)3 corporation founded in 1973. We have been dedicated to training, clinical  treatment, and the dissemination of information on Qigong and Complementary Alternative  Medicine (CAM) for  the past 29 years. Combining the best of Traditional Chinese Medicine  (TCM) and Western Medicine is the core of our philosophy and practice.

Founder and  President is Effie Poy Yew Chow, Ph.D., R.N., Dipl.Ac. (NCCAOM).  Dr. Chow is a Qigong Grandmaster and California Certified Acupuncturist and has been practicing for over 30 years.

Our areas of expertise are in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focusing  on acupuncture, Qigong, Tui Na and Ahn Mo massage, Qi Pressure, and other related  techniques fostering overall Mind/Body/Spirit wellness and treatment for disease, pain,   and physical trauma and physiological imbalances.

Treatment at the clinic includes acupuncture, Qigong, Chinese Massage (called Tui Na  and Ahn Mo), and moxibustion. Dr. Chow's approach is truly holistic and treats the whole  of her clients (she prefers this term over "patients"). This means a  Body/Mind/Spirit approach with the goal of the client taking responsibility for their  condition and receiving the tools to regain balance in all aspects of their lives. Clients  leave the clinic with a Qigong exercise program  to follow to maintain their Qi balance and  tonify their whole being. Many of these exercises can be found in the book Dr. Chow wrote with Dr. Charles McGee called  "Miracle Healing From China - Qigong."

Some insurance companies cover acupuncture and alternative therapies so be sure to  check yours. Many of Dr. Chow's clients receive reimbursement from their insurance  policies for treatment or from their professional associations for continuing education.

Dr. Chow is also well known for her "telephone Qigong sessions" for  long-distance Qi Emission healing. Several cases are documented in the testimonial section in the website whereby clients have been  healed after all other treatment modalities have failed.
